Street photography gets me closer than you'd think.

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

One of the things I love about street photography is talking with and getting to know the interesting people that I photograph.

Meet Sandra and her dog Sandy.

Met these two at an Arco gas station while we were fueling up in Beaumont, California. Sandra was a really friendly person. She pushed a small metal cart that looked as though all her worldly possessions were awkwardly bagged, strapped and tied to the cart.

I chatted with her for a bit and she regaled me with a summary from a part of her life's story. I couldn't help but smile as I listened to her speak.

As we continued to talk, I asked if she wouldn't mind if I could take her picture. Her face lit up and she jumped to a model's pose without hesitation. I could see that she was not shy and her beautiful personality just took over. I thanked her, said goodbye to her and Sandy, and wished them both well. She is definitely one of my favorite people that I have met and photographed. I will never forgot her and little Sandy.

She said she is originally from South Carolina but she was in California hoping to work some things out.

If you are in the Beaumont area and see her and her little dog Sandy, make sure to wave and say Hi. She just might give you a big smile and a wave back.
